History of Brain Injured Children Trust

BICT was started in 1993 in New Zealand.

The Friends of Brain Injured Children Trust was born when a group of 3 parents who were undergoing a home based therapy program with their children gathered together frustrated at the lack of support and understanding they were getting from the professionals.

They were working hard and participating in early intervention for their children, trying to make a positive difference in the quality of their children’s lives towards independence, and wanting to share the hope of the Neuro Developmental Therapy programme with other parents..

We provide families/whanau with access to:

Support for physical and emotional needs.

Resources and specialised equipment.

Experience/knowledge from all the families involved.

Advice for NDTP (Neuro – Developmental – Therapy-Programs) and Home Based Therapies.

Information on New Zealand based programmes.

Great We are proud to be the charity partner of

The Great Kiwi Circus Show

Through the fantastic work the team at The Great Kiwi Circus Show is involved in, we are able to get our vision and mission out to communities all across New Zealand each year.

The Great Kiwi Circus Show (formerly The Going Bananas Show) has helped us reach many families that would have never known about us. They have helped bring awareness to families/whānau of the many ways we can provide support and guidance.

The funds raised each year through this partnership enable us to financially support programs for families/whānau that have a child with a brain injury.

The Great Kiwi Circus brings the thrill and excitement of the circus onto stages all over New Zealand throughout the year. It is a high-energy, action-packed 90-minute show to suit special needs and disadvantaged children in the community. It . The show is grounded by the fantastically funny Ring Master and presents children and caregivers with a variety of circus acts that change each year.

This is a fun interactive show that caters to children from 3-13 years old. The children/caregivers are selected by schools and agencies in each district to attend. These children will generally have an array of special circumstances, from medical, physical or financial, making the day a special treat and out of the ordinary.
